While Sinclair's main purpose was to expose the horrible working conditions and corruption within cities, the book ended up impacting America's view on the meat packing industry. In 1906, Theodore Roosevelt passed the Meat Inspection Act and the Food and Drug Act, both made to put regulations and transparecy in the processing and packaging of meat. |
